DIYBio in Europe

DIYBio has spread across the European continent to a number of major cities. The UK, Netherlands and Switzerland each host 3 groups, which shows DIYBio is mostly found in North-Western Europe.

On average each lab is managed by a small group of people, typically 3 or 5. Activities range from incidental events to weekly meetups and project nights. The practitioners convene once in a while at technology events, such as Biohack The Planet, Hackers on Planet Earth, Chaos Computer Congress, Ars Electronica or GOSH.

DIYBio is also being advocated at the EU level. For example in the policy brief DIYBio for the progression of Open Science and Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI).
